Parents of students in Year 3 and Year 5 received their child's individual NAPLAN reports last term. These reports highlight each child's strengths and areas for growth.
At the school level, we receive both individual and cohort data. This helps us identify common areas and question types that require additional focus. Our teachers use this data to adapt classroom instruction and provide targeted support, including small group interventions where needed
NAPLAN Results Report – 2025
Our 2025 NAPLAN results reflect the positive impact of our explicit improvement agenda, focused on writing and foundational literacy skills based on the Australian Curriculum. Through the implementation of Sounds-Write in Prep to Year 2 and Promoting Literacy Development (PLD) across the school, we have a school-wide approach to enhance phonemic awareness, spelling, and writing proficiency.
School Improvement Agenda
Our strategic focus areas include:
- Writing: Strengthening student writing through explicit instruction, genre-based teaching, and feedback cycles with the support of our Education Officers BCE
- Phonemic Awareness and Spelling: Embedding systemic phonics programs to build decoding and encoding skills.
NAPLAN Data Overview
Year 3 Results
- Writing: 92.5% of students achieved strong or exceeding benchmarks.
- Reading: 82% of students achieved strong or exceeding benchmarks.
- Spelling: 50% of students achieved strong or exceeding benchmarks.
- Numeracy 78% of students achieved strong or exceeding benchmarks
Year 5 Results
- Writing: 76% of students achieved strong or exceeding benchmarks.
- Reading: 76% of students achieved strong or exceeding benchmarks.
- Spelling: 51% of students achieved strong or exceeding benchmarks.
- Numeracy: 86% of students achieved strong or exceeding benchmarks.
Literacy Program Impact
The implementation of Sounds-Write and PLD has directly supported our spelling outcomes. While spelling remains an area for continued growth, the consistency of phonics instruction is laying a strong foundation for future improvement. Early years students are demonstrating improved phonemic segmentation and blending, which is expected to translate into stronger spelling and writing outcomes over time.
Professional Learning and Targeted Support
- Staff have engaged in professional development focused on phonics pedagogy and writing instruction.
- Data-informed teaching practices are used to identify students needing additional support and to tailor interventions accordingly.
Next Steps
- Continue embedding high-impact writing strategies across all year levels.
- Monitor and refine phonics instruction to ensure fidelity and effectiveness.
- Use formative assessment data to track progress and inform teaching.
Our NAPLAN results affirm the effectiveness of our literacy improvement agenda. With continued focus on writing and phonics, we are confident in our trajectory toward even stronger student outcomes.
