Our Year 5 and 6 students have officially kicked off their Cairns Tour with an exciting start — a smooth flight followed by an unforgettable visit to the Cairns Aquarium.
Immersed in hands-on learning, students explored a wide range of marine habitats, discovering how different species adapt and thrive in their environments. They gained a deeper understanding of human impact on our oceans and why protecting these ecosystems matters — and yes, there was plenty of excitement when Nemo made an appearance!
The adventure continued on the Great Barrier Reef, where learning came to life in extraordinary ways. Students conducted real scientific surveys while snorkelling, experienced the reef from a glass bottom boat, explored below the surface in a submersible, and observed marine life from an underwater observatory. A highlight for many was working alongside marine biologists to help rebuild sections of the reef — a powerful experience that showed how even small actions can make a big difference.
Beyond the science, this tour is also an opportunity for students to grow as leaders. Through teamwork, responsibility and stepping outside their comfort zones, students are developing confidence, independence and a strong sense of stewardship for the world around them — qualities that will stay with them long after the trip ends.
It’s been an incredible start to what promises to be a memorable and meaningful experience for our students.
