Physical Education

Physical activity is essential for every child’s growth and well-being. Our Physical Education (PE) program helps students build skills, confidence, and a love for movement — setting them up for a healthy and active life.

What PE looks like at OLR

Our PE program goes beyond sport. It’s about helping students:

  • Develop coordination, strength, and fitness
  • Learn teamwork, resilience, and fair play
  • Enjoy movement through fun, inclusive activities
  • Build lifelong habits for health and wellbeing.

Weekly activities and skill development

  • Swimming Lessons - Held in Terms 1 and 4 in our on-site pool, led by a qualified PE teacher. All students are expected to participate.
  • Fundamental Movement Skills - Running, throwing, catching, kicking, and bouncing are taught through modified games like T-ball, basketball, netball, touch, soccer, kanga cricket, tenpin bowling, and European handball.
  • Athletics Training - Sprints, relays, long-distance running, ball games, long jump, high jump, and shot put (Years 4–6).

Competitions and carnivals

  • Swimming Carnival – All students participate; top performers represent OLR at the Zone Carnival.
  • Athletics Carnival – Annual event with opportunities for Zone selection.
  • Cross Country – Held in Term 2; training leads to Zone and state-level opportunities.
  • Interschool Sport Gala Days – Term 2 and Term 3 events for Years 3–6, competing with other local schools.
