We are fortunate to have our new Road Safety Track in the Carmody court area of our school.
This area is utilised for warm-ups in the morning, outdoor learning and games. It also provides a great space to address areas of the curriculum to enhance student learning.
From the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education
Prep - In this strand, Prep children need to recognise and follow safety symbols and procedures at home, in water and road environments.
Year 1 & Year 2 - In this two year band, children will describe actions to stay safe in a range of environments, including water, road, nature and outdoors.
Years 3 and 4 - At the chldren get older, they will have more independence in their play. The curriculum for this age group requires students to examine protective behaviours to stay safe, including near water or roads.
Year 5 and Year 6 - Students in their final years of primary school will be developing the skills to independently use roads and public transport. They need to select and practise appropriate responses to promote safety in different situations, including traffic related situations.
