A Few Highlights for the Last Week of Term 2

Digital Technology

Year 3 students started working on their Computer Science understanding and skills through completing a range of coding activities in Digital Technology lessons. Each student uses problem solving skills to complete a variety of tasks. They are learning to write instructions using visual coding blocks and to 'debug' when there is a problem!

National Simultaneous Storytime

We love to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime at Our Lady of the Rosary School.  It is an annual event promoted by the Australian Library and Information Association.  The same book is read across Australia at the same time!  Recently the whole school came together to "read" this year's book, Give Me Some Space by Philip Bunting.  It was brought to life by the very talented Abigail in Year 5 for the whole school to see and hear.  Thanks to technology and the use of our green screen, students were able to see Abigail blast off into space and return again.  Abigail gave us all an important message that our planet Earth is amazing and we need to look after it.

Afterwards students joined their buddy class to enjoy rocket drawing activities.  It was wonderful to see the older students assisting and encouraging the younger ones and developing relationships across the school community.

Parent Information Workshop - Reading for children in Kindy - Year 1

The Primary Learning Leader, Mrs Lewis and School Principal, Mr Bates ran two very interesting sessions for parents, one during the day and a repeat in the evening.  We believe in fostering a love of reading and literature.  Reading development and strategies at home was discussed. Examples of school strategies and facilities to maximise children's exposure to the many facets of reading were also explained.
